What Should Your Day Look Like as a Freight Broker

Most brokerages start off as a one man/woman show.  As you can imagine, that comes with a lot of stress.  It isn’t easy to wear so many hats at one time.  Operations manager, sales executive, safety department, accounting and countless more roles fall on your shoulders as the owner of a startup brokerage.

So, with all this in mind, what is the best way to structure your day as a broker?

While there are a ton of different ways to maximize your time, in this video I break down a simple way to structure your day in such a way that you can grow your business and still provide high quality work to your clients, without all the overwhelm.

In general, we break our day into 5 parts.

  1. Morning tracking: where we check on and monitor all active loads.
  2. Pending Coverage: When we try to cover all loads that need to be covered.
  3. Warm prospect follow-up: Following up with any prospects we know are interested in utilizing our services.
  4. Cold Follow Up: Our cold calls and prospecting for new business.
  5. Afternoon Wrap Up/Administrative duties: One last look at any active work that needs to be completed and get a start on administrative duties that do not directly generate revenue for the business.  This is our accounting, HR, bills, etc.

It’s imperative that your day be structured in a way that allows you to move your business forward and not have to neglect the current business you have.

Comment below and let me know how you structure your day or give my schedule a shot, and let me know how it goes!
